Greetings


GREETINGS /ˈgriːtɪŋz/
There are three important point when we are trying to learn a new language.

  1. How to know people.
  2. How to introduce yourself.
  3.  How to start a simple conversation. 

These are phases or friendly message that we say to someone It could be a friend, relatives, girlfriend, new classmate even a new neighbor, commonly we use for how someone is o for a start a conversation.

COMMON FORMAL GREETINGS
·         Hello! hɛˈləʊ!/ the most common greeting.
·         Hello there. /həˈloʊ ðɛr/.(to greet a group of people for example your friends)
·         Polite form to say “Hello” “Good Morning/Afternoon/evening.”
o   Good morning, /gʊd ˈmɔrnɪŋ/, we can use it, since we wake up until 12:00 Pm; it means we can use around the morning, (the first word we say in the day, before the afternoon)
o   Good afternoon: /gʊd ˌæftərˈnun/ we use it, to greet after the lunch time, since 12:00 pm until 6:00 pm.
o   Good evening: /gʊd ˈivnɪŋ:/ to greet someone around the night (after 6:00pm)
·         What are you doing? / wʌt ɑr ju ˈduɪŋ? /
·         How’s it going? /haʊz ɪt ˈgoʊɪŋ?/
·         How are you? /haʊ ɑr ju?/ polite question after meet someone.
·         How are you today? /haʊ ɑr ju təˈdeɪ?/     

INTRODUCING PEOPLE
·         Hello I am ___ /həˈloʊ aɪ æm ___/              Common and easy way to introduce yourself.
·         What´s your name?  /wʌt´ɛs jʊər neɪm?/  to greet someone that you meet for first time
·         I’m glad to meet you! /əm glæd tu mit ju!/ after the greeting, use it when you meet someone for first time
·         It’s a pleasure to meet you! /ɪts ə ˈplɛʒər tu mit ju!/
Example:

A:           Hello, How are you?

B:            Hello, fine and you? / I’m fine   (The common response)

·         Hi! /haɪ!/ the most common informal greeting, use it with your friends, o people you are close.
·         Hi there! /haɪ!/ (To greet a group of people)
·         Hey! /heɪ/ very informal greeting you can use with your friends.
·         What's wrong with you? /wʌts rɔŋ wɪθ ju?/
·         What's the matter with you? /wʌts ðə ˈmætər wɪð ju?/
·         What´s up? /wʌts ʌp?/ informal question to say “how are you
·         What´s news? /       wʌts nuz?/
·         What´s going on? /wʌts ˈgoʊɪn ɔn?/
·         What’s happening? /wʌts ˈhæpənɪŋ?/

GREETING FOR SOMEONE THAT YOU HAVEN´T SEE FOR A LONG TIME
